President Donald Trump called the 2026 midterm elections “crooked” and demanded that votes cast for two minor candidates in Alaska’s unresolved Senate race be credited to Republican incumbent Dan Sullivan. His post was a public demand, not an announced decision by election officials, according to Axios.

Trump’s post on Truth Social referred to another candidate named Dan Sullivan and to Gerald Heikes. He said their votes should be given to the “REAL Dan Sullivan” and wrote, “There is no other fair solution!” The incumbent and the other candidate share a name, but they are separate people.

In remarks to reporters at the White House on Thursday, November 5, Trump also said, “Our elections are so crooked, you have no idea.” He had initially accepted the midterm results, France 24 reported.

Alaska race remains unsettled

Democrat Mary Peltola was leading the Alaska Senate contest with 48.2% of the vote, compared with 47.9% for incumbent Sullivan, according to the figures reported Thursday. The remaining ballots had not yet produced a final result.

Trump’s demand came as Democrats secured control of both chambers of Congress in the midterms. They were set to hold at least 54 Senate seats to Republicans’ 44, while their House majority had passed 250 seats, France 24 reported.

The Alaska request follows Trump’s broader criticism of the election results, but the materials cited do not report that votes were officially reassigned. The Senate race remained undecided.
