Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni blamed pro-Russian hackers after Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said his personal data had been posted on the dark web and that he and his family faced threats and intimidation. Tajani said the leaks had been circulating for days.
In a post on X on Saturday, November 7, Tajani said cybercriminals had published his personal information. He did not identify those responsible. In a separate statement, Meloni expressed her solidarity with the minister and said the disclosure of personal data about government officials was a serious concern.
Tajani said he believed his support for Ukraine was the political reason he had been targeted. He described backing the sovereignty and independence of a state as dangerous to the criminal groups involved, but did not provide evidence identifying the attackers or explaining how the leak occurred.
The minister said his family had also been targeted and that those responsible were seeking further information. He said he would continue defending Italy’s foreign ministry and strengthening cooperation with the country’s allies.
The statements did not specify which personal details had been exposed. No independent technical findings identifying the operators were cited.
