At least 30 people were reported killed and eight wounded in an attack on al-Hadara market in al-Waziyah, Yemen’s Taiz province, on Friday, November 6. The reported death toll came from Houthi authorities, while the parties involved disputed who carried out the attack.

Houthi officials blamed Saudi airstrikes. Government forces and local authorities rejected that account and accused Houthi fighters of firing indiscriminately. The Associated Press said it could not independently verify either side’s claims.

The provincial media office acknowledged an attack and casualties but did not provide a death toll, according to AP. The number of people killed and the responsibility for the strike therefore remain unconfirmed independently.

Clashes have displaced thousands in Taiz

Taiz has seen intense fighting in recent weeks. The province is home to around half of the more than 300,000 people displaced by the latest clashes, according to France 24.

The incident occurred in an area where Houthi forces and government-aligned forces have been fighting. That broader conflict does not establish who was responsible for the attack on the market.
