Thousands of young people gathered at Berlin’s Brandenburg Gate on October 31 for a rally organized by the Gen Z regelt movement. Police estimated that about 5,000 people attended, while organizers put the crowd at around 10,000, according to Tagesschau.

The Berlin demonstration was part of a nationwide day of youth protests, with events planned in more than 30 German cities, including Frankfurt and Cologne. The rally followed student demonstrations in other European countries.

Education, living costs and climate among demands

Gen Z regelt called for better funding for schools, support for mental health services, more affordable living costs and a fairer distribution of social burdens. Its demands also included opposition to compulsory military service, protection of fundamental rights and stronger climate action, Tagesschau reported.

At the Brandenburg Gate, protesters carried banners calling for German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and French President Emmanuel Macron to resign. Others chanted anti-capitalist and anti-fascist slogans as speakers addressed the crowd, according to Euronews.

Police said the Berlin gathering passed without incidents. The demonstration was organized under the name “Gen Z regelt,” which translates as “Gen Z will sort it out.”
