Gen Z regelt Announces New Demonstrations

The German youth initiative Gen Z regelt has called for additional protests on November 14, urging citizens to rally for enhanced funding in education, addiction treatment, and mental health services. The group seeks to address rising living costs and promote social justice and climate protection.

Distancing from Post-Protest Violence

Following peaceful rallies across several cities, incidents of violence and looting occurred in locations like Frankfurt and Cologne. Gen Z regelt explicitly rejected any ties to these disturbances, emphasizing that the violent actions took place after their organized demonstrations concluded.

Police confirmed that while protests remained largely peaceful, some extremists exploited the events as cover for disorderly conduct. Authorities detained over 30 individuals in Frankfurt amid attacks on shops and officers.

Key Demands and Opposition to Military Service

Spokesperson Lina Friedrich outlined that the movement opposes reintroducing mandatory military service and expanded government surveillance. Instead, the group prioritizes peace, freedom, and a fairer distribution of societal burdens.

City Responses and Security Measures

Following the looting in Frankfurt, police increased patrols to protect damaged businesses. Hesse state Premier Boris Rhein condemned the violence and promised consequences for perpetrators, stressing their exclusion from society.
